Getting into the University of St. Thomas

The University of St. Thomas is a coeducational Roman Catholic University located in Minnesota. It was founded in 1885 initially as a Catholic seminary. It became a liberal arts college in 1894. Currently, the university has over 10, 000 students in both undergraduate and post graduate degrees. The most famous courses offered by the school are in business, biology, communication and journalism, psychology and education. Students may choose to major in any of these areas and may also opt to minor in more than one field. Students can choose from over 59 fields to minor in. The school’s motto goes “Challenge Yourself, Change our World.”
There are financial assistance programs available for deserving students and available housing facilities within the campus as well. The housing rules are pretty strict as there are rules on curfew and visitor privileges.

There are lots of student activities that you can get involved in. Athletics are popular with the students and the locals as well. The school has a football team and multi awarded teams in basketball, softball, track and lacrosse.

Application requirements

- ACT and/or SAT test score
- Letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches and employers
- College admission essay for each application or a writing sample in place of an essay
- Duly accomplished college application forms
- Applications for housing, scholarships or financial aid, if applicable
- Interview
- Applicants are also encouraged to visit the school and inquire about the student life from actual enrolled students
- Attendance in orientations, if accepted

Admission tips

The school accepts exceptional students that do not only make the cut but also stand out. Focus on beefing up your co-curricular activities in order to gain the attention of the admissions committee. You will be required to submit recommendation letters from teachers and employers, so make sure that they will have high praises for you. Make sure that your SAT and / or ACT test scores are at par with the minimum requirements of the school. It would not hurt to start preparing for the SATs as early as possible. Also, the school accepts around 75% of the applicants, so better accomplish the admission requirements early so you can submit them early as well.
